Tot School
Feb
Hunter is 14 months old
We had a fun week at Tot School this week! Here’s a peek at some of the things we did:
We made a Valentine’s Day sensory bin that included pictures of our family on heart shaped card stock and some fake rose petals.
Hunter loved seeing the pictures of our family! (See original post here.)
Hunter used a heart shaped cookie cutter to make some heart prints. (Original post here.)
Hunter made this cute Valentine that says “I love you to pieces.” (Original post here.)
Hunter is also learning the color red, so we had a red sensory bin. (Original post here.)
I made this so Hunter could practice his fine motor skills. I just put a little hole in the bottom of each spot on the egg carton and put red pipe cleaner through each hole.
He’s not ready to try to put the pipe cleaner in through the holes yet. That was too hard and just made him frustrated. He handed it to me and wanted me to do it.
He did like pulling the pieces out though and worked on it for several minutes (which is a long time in toddler time).
Hunter also colored for the first time this week. He seemed to enjoy it and was very proud of himself once he finally figured out how to do it. (Original post here.)
Stop by 1+1+1=1 to see what the other tots have been up to this last week.
Fun with Red
Feb

Hunter is learning the color red, so I made this red sensory bin for him. I didn’t think I was going to be able to find much red stuff, but after less than 5 minutes of walking around our family room I was able to fill the bin.
Hunter loved playing with everything in the bin. The best part seemed to be trying to see which items he could fit inside of other items.
I stacked some blocks and Hunter added to the top.
Hailey got home from school while we were playing with the sensory bin, so Hunter was done with the bin. Playing with his big sister is definitely his favorite thing to do!
I saw these cute “crayons” for toddlers, so I thought it would be fun for Hunter to use them.
He didn’t think it was fun though and it just frustrated him. Then the crayon kept falling out, so I just gave him the crayon to write with.
He has never used a crayon before, so of course he had to taste it.
I showed him several times what to do with it, but he was more interested in shaking the crayon than trying to color with it. I didn’t think he was going to color, so I turned around to get our next activity ready. When I turned back around he was coloring 🙂
Hunter working on coloring a picture.
(My opinion- don’t waste your money on those cute “crayons.”)
Heart Prints
Feb
We used red paint, a heart shaped cookie cutter, a paper plate and a piece of paper.
I put a very small amount of paint on the paper plate and then stamped the cookie cutter in the paint.
Hunter stamped the cookie cutter onto the paper.
He had to see what it felt like.
Then he wondered what he had all over his hands.
Since Hunter was sitting in his chair at the table, after a few minutes he assumed it was time to eat. This is how he signs for “more.” So, we were done painting and it was time for some lunch.
Hunter’s finished art work.
Tot School
Feb
Hunter is 13.5 months old
It was a slow week at Tot School this week. It just seemed like I was so busy there wasn’t much time to do a whole lot of activities. We are considering homeschooling Hailey next year for 2nd grade and I have to admit I spent a lot of time online researching curriculum as well as looking for homeschooling groups in our area. There were also a few appointments last week and it just seemed like we had places to be every day. We did find time to do a few Tot School activities though. Our “theme” was the color red and Valentine’s Day.

We made a Valentine’s Day discovery bottle which Hunter had fun with. I used pink shampoo and some purple plastic hearts. Hunter liked watching the shampoo slowly run from one end to the other.
Hunter made a heart using contact paper and red tissue paper. He loved feeling the sticky contact paper. You can see the full post here.
Hunter also did some mess free painting. I put red paint and paper in a ziploc bag and taped it to the table. He loved it! And there was no mess at all, which I loved!
Hunter enjoyed playing with some red playdough and using a heart to press heart shapes into it.
Hopefully we’ll get a bit more done this week! Stop by 1+1+1=1 to see what the other tots have been up to this last week.
