Count the Stars
Feb
Earlier this week we did a test run of what a homeschooling day would be like since we are considering homeschooling next year. We had a Bible story as part of our day. Since Hailey has been learning about Abraham at church I decided to do a lesson about that. We read the story about when God told Abraham to count the stars and that would be how many descendants he would have. Hailey did a really simple craft to go with the story.
First Hailey colored stars all over her paper using a crayon. I wanted her to use a white crayon but she insisted on using yellow.
Then she painted with black water color all over the page to represent the night sky. It turned out cute!
Clouds
Feb
Back in July Hailey was working on a science journal. She had wanted to do school all summer long, but then soon after this activity she decided she needed some time off and we never came back and finished our study of clouds. Here is what we did back in July:
Hailey filled out her Observing Nature sheet and she took some pictures of the clouds in the sky.
We read this book about clouds.
Then she cut out some pieces to make a poster about the water cycle.
It turned out so cute! (Printables found at The First Grade Parade.)
Then yesterday while Hailey was off of school (and wanted to do a day of homeschooling to see what it would be like) we did this science experiment:
Cut a 2 liter bottle in half. Put warm water in the bottom, we added blue food coloring to pretend it was the ocean, but that is not necessary. In the top of the bottle add ice, then put the top of the bottle into the bottom of the bottle as pictured. After a little while condensation will start to build up and later on in the day we had enough condensation that it actually “rained” a little bit.
George Washington
Feb
Since it was President’s Day, Hailey did some activities about George Washington. She made this book about George Washington, we read a lot information about him and she answered some questions about what we read. Then Hailey made this Craftivity I found at A Cupcake for the Teacher. I changed ours a little bit by using cotton for his hair, but it’s the same basic idea.
Hailey had a lot of fun making this.
We had also talked about Abraham Lincoln so we reviewed a little about what we had learned about him.
Then we made a Venn Diagram about the two presidents.
Hailey also made this paper about what she would do if she were the president. She wrote; “I would… help people get out of serious fights and tell my mom and dad all the secrets.”
Tot School
Feb
Hunter is 14 months old
We had a fun week at Tot School this week! Here’s a peek at some of the things we did:
We made a Valentine’s Day sensory bin that included pictures of our family on heart shaped card stock and some fake rose petals.
Hunter loved seeing the pictures of our family! (See original post here.)
Hunter used a heart shaped cookie cutter to make some heart prints. (Original post here.)
Hunter made this cute Valentine that says “I love you to pieces.” (Original post here.)
Hunter is also learning the color red, so we had a red sensory bin. (Original post here.)
I made this so Hunter could practice his fine motor skills. I just put a little hole in the bottom of each spot on the egg carton and put red pipe cleaner through each hole.
He’s not ready to try to put the pipe cleaner in through the holes yet. That was too hard and just made him frustrated. He handed it to me and wanted me to do it.
He did like pulling the pieces out though and worked on it for several minutes (which is a long time in toddler time).
Hunter also colored for the first time this week. He seemed to enjoy it and was very proud of himself once he finally figured out how to do it. (Original post here.)
Stop by 1+1+1=1 to see what the other tots have been up to this last week.
