Letter of the Week- Letter H

28
Mar

Our letter last week was the letter H- here are some of the things we did:

Hailey made this H is for House from Totally Tots.

She also made this H is for Horse using her handprints.

Hailey loves these letter hunts from Confessions of a Homeschooler.

Do-a-Dot letter H page from Confessions of a Homeschooler.

Reading her Letter H book- we have vocabulary pictures that she colors, cuts out and then glues to index cards.  I turn each one into a letter book.

Definitely one of Hailey’s favorite things to do- play on Starfall.

This has the letters on it we have done so far with RRSP.  To review the sounds we sing this song to the tune of “Do You Know the Muffin Man?”
Oh do you see the letter [I]
the letter [I]
the letter [I]
Oh do you see the letter [I]
it says [iii iii iii]

Oh yes I see the letter [I]
the letter [I]
the letter [I]
Oh yes I see the letter [I]
it says [iii iii iii]

Doing a maze in her princess workbook following the letter Hh.

Here are some of the things we did from RRSP:

Showing off her verse that she colored.

Putting her vocabulary words into the baseball card sheet protector.

Practicing writing Hh.

Color by number for her sight word of the week (and).

Cutting

Gluing her shape parents to go along with her verse.

Other:

Practicing writing her sight word in her Sight Words book.

Working on her Clothespin ABCs where she has to match the capital and lowercase letters (using the printable from 1+1+1=1).

Doing an activity for the number 7 (the number of the week) in a Disney book.

Counting How Many (from 1+1+1=1) and putting the clothespin on the correct number.

Our theme last week was horses (at Hailey’s request) and we spent all week doing horse activities and reading horse books.  On Saturday we went to a small maple farm and they were giving pony rides.

The perfect way to end our letter H/horse theme week!

The Horse That Doesn’t Look Like a Horse

25
Mar

So this horse looked a lot cuter inside my head then it did when we actually made it.  But it was still fun.

First Hailey painted four craft sticks brown.

We used 2 of those little cardboard planters.

I cut about 1/3 off of one of the planters.  Hailey added eyes and a mane.  We didn’t have any brown feathers for the mane so Hailey decided she wanted a rainbow mane of her horse.

Hailey added a brown pipe cleaner to the larger cardboard planter for a tail.

Then we glued the smaller one on top of the bigger one.

We also added ears and once the craft sticks were dry, we added those as legs.  So it ended up not looking much like a horse… maybe more like a cat of dog.  But Hailey had fun.

Paper Plate Horse

24
Mar

Continuing with our horse theme, today we made a paper plate horse.

First Hailey painted a paper plate brown.

Once the paint was dry she taped some legs on the other side of the plate.

Hailey added a head (I found a coloring sheet here and reduced it to 60%).  Then she added some yarn for the tail and the mane.

The completed paper plate horse.

We’ve been reading a lot of books about horses this week too.  Hailey loves to look at her books.  She’s checking out a few of the horse books we got from the library.
