Hershey Kiss and Science Experiments

09
Feb

Hailey made a Hershey Kiss for a cute Valentine’s Day activity.  I cut out a Hershey Kiss shape from an old file folder.  Hailey wrapped it in foil and then taped it to the back.

Hailey added some eyes to the kiss.

The finished Hershey Kiss.

We did a little color mixing experiment.  We froze different colored hearts using food coloring.

Then we put the hearts into clear cups, waited for the ice to melt and checked to see what happened.

Once all the ice melted Hailey filled in our color chart to see what would happen when certain colors were mixed together.

Then we did an experiment with snow.  Hailey filled a cool whip container with snow and we brought it inside to see what would happen.

Hailey checked it every hour and made predictions about what she thought would happen next.

Once it was all melted we poured it over a coffee filter to see what would happen.  We talked about why the bowl was full of snow and why the water was much lower and we talked about why there was dirt on the coffee filter.

I took pictures of Hailey checking the snow and wrote down her predictions/comments each hour.  This will be made into a little booklet.

Valentine Doily Painting and More

Feb

Hailey made a cute doily painting for Valentine’s Day.  I taped (using a very small amount of tape) a heart shaped doily to a piece of paper.  Then Hailey sponge painted on top of the doily.

Another bigger doily and more sponge painting.

Here is what the first one looked like when it was done.

Then I cut them out and glued them together for a pretty Valentine’s Day decoration.

Hailey made a heart counting poster.

Here is it hanging up in her playroom.

The following 3 printables are from the Valentine’s Day Unit at Musings of Me:

Hailey did her first graph using candy hearts.

Here is her completed graph.  We counted all the hearts and talked about most/least.

Hailey practiced her cutting skills.

And practiced her color words.

Letter of the Week- Letter V

07
Feb

Our letter this week is the letter V.  Here are some of the things we did to learn our letter.  I only post the things I am able to take pictures of, but we do a lot more.

First we made a V is for vase.  Hailey started out by coloring some coffee filters.

Then she sprayed the coffee filters with a light mist of water.  After the coffee filters dried I cut out some flowers.

V is for Vase.

Then Hailey cut out various vegetables that we found in the the fliers from our newspaper.

This “V is for vegetables” page will go in our alphabet book.

I got this letter V sheet here and had Hailey stamp all of the letter Vs with her do-a-dot markers.

Musings of Me has a whole Valentine’s Day unit with tons of fun printables.  That’s where this is from.

This is also from Musings of Me- Hailey had to sort the letters based on whether it was a V or some other letter.

I’ll be posting all of our Valentine’s Day projects this week so be sure to check back!
