Starfish
Jun
Hailey is loving our ocean theme. We found a great craft book (Crafty Kids: Fun Projects for You and Your Toddler by Rosie Hankin) that has several ocean crafts in it to do. So, Hailey decided that she wanted to make a starfish today.

Here’s what you’ll need: construction paper for the background, construction paper cut into the shape of water, the shape of a starfish, a mouth shaped paper, 2 wiggly eyes, stars, tissue paper cut to look like seaweed, glue and glitter.

Glue on the water and the seaweed.

Add the starfish.

Add some eyes to the starfish and glue on some star shapes. Add some glitter to the extra glue on the starfish.

The finished starfish.
Letter of the Week- Letter P
Jun
Our letter of the week this week is the letter P. Hailey loves princesses- so I thought it would be perfect to make a letter P Princess.

Here’s what you’ll need: construction paper with the letter P on it, blank construction paper, construction paper for the crown and the face, sequence, glitter, wiggly eyes and glue.

Glue some sequence onto the P so the princess will have lots of jewels to wear.

While Hailey was busy gluing the sequence on, I cut out a crown, a mouth and face for the princess. The yellow D shaped piece will fit inside the P and will be the princesses face.

Glue the face on, add some eyes, a nose and mouth.

Glue the crown on and then put some glue onto the crown. Then sprinkle glitter on the crown and all over the Princess- there is no picture of this step because I was busy making sure the glitter didn’t get all over everything.

Our finished P Princess.
Tot School Week in Review
May
Hailey is 31 months old.
This week we talked about the Ocean and the letter O. Here is what we did this week with links to the activities I posted about.

We made an Ocotpus O.

We learned about Jellyfish and made a Jellyfish using a paper plate.

We pretended that we caught some fish in the ocean and made a fish aquarium to keep them in.

Hailey learned about turtles and made a very easy paper plate turtle.

Hailey watched Finding Nemo for the first time. There was so much in the movie that I have been teaching her about regarding the ocean that it was just perfect. She did really well watching it.

We have been keeping an eye on the grass that we planted and taking pictures of the progress it has been making. I made some cards for Hailey to sequence from the day we planted the seeds until the grass had grown nice and tall and green.
Stop by 1+1+1=1 to see what the other tots have been up to this week.
Paper Plate Turtle
May
In continuing with our ocean theme we learned about turtles. I explained how turtles lay their eggs on the beach and then when the baby turtles hatch they go into the ocean. Then we made a very easy paper plate turtle.

Here’s what you’ll need: paper plate, glue, green construction paper, wiggly eyes.

Tear the construction paper into little pieces. This helps to strengthen the muscles in the hand that are necessary for the control needed to learn how to write.

Glue the little pieces of paper onto the paper plate. Once the plate was all covered in construction paper we added a head and legs.

The finished turtle.
