Spring Tree

20
May

Our theme this week is Spring, so today we talked about what trees look like during the winter and what they look like during the spring.  Then we made a pretty spring tree.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Here’s what you’ll need: blue construction paper, brown piece of construction paper cut into a tree shape, green construction paper cut to look like grass, glue, chalk, cotton and fake flowers (or tissue paper).

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Glue the tree and grass onto the paper.  Talk about how the tree looks empty and bare during the winter.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

I drew a circle with the chalk for the sun and then Hailey colored it in.

We added some cotton balls for clouds and then the flowers on the tree.

Today we started our spring theme.  We started out by making a book about how to plant seeds and then we planted some seeds.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Here’s what you’ll need: 8 planter shaped pieces of paper, glue, colored pencils and directions for planting seeds.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Color the directions for planting the seeds.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Glue the directions onto the planter shaped construction paper.

Our completed book- “How to Plant a Seed.”

After we finished our book we planted some grass.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Hailey scooped some dirt into a cup.

Then she added some grass seed to the cup.  We are going to watch the seeds and take pictures of the process.

This week we are focusing on the letter N.  This is an idea I saw over at No Time for Flashcards– it’s a “Number N.”

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Here’s what you’ll need: letter N on construction paper, another piece of construction paper, crayons, glue, and some numbers.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Color the letter N.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

After Hailey colored the “N” I cut it out and she glued it onto the other piece of construction paper.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

I put the numbers out and we practiced counting.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Then Hailey glued the numbers onto the letter N.

Tot School- Week in Review

17
May

Hailey is 31 months old.

Tot School

We are staying with my parents right now until it is time for the closing on our new house (we are hoping it will be this week or early next week).  While we are here I don’t have to worry about packing or unpacking.  So, we finally have time to do some Tot School activities again.  Here is a review of what we did last week with links to the activities I posted about.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Our letter of the week was the letter M.  We made this Mountain M.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

When Hailey made her Mother’s Day cards for her grandmothers she decided she wanted to draw pictures of everyone.  Here is picture of how her people turned out when she drew Gramma and Pa.  Both of them have a head, 2 arms, 2 legs, 2 eyes, a nose and a mouth.  I thought they turned out pretty good for her first attempt at drawing people.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Hailey had fun just exploring and watching the colors mix together and change.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Our theme for the week was dinosaurs.  We made this fun dinosour bones picture.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Hailey enjoyed playing with these dinosaur bones.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Hailey decorated a dinosaur and then we wrote a story about her dinosaur, Haily-o-saurus.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Hailey loved this mat and played with her dinosaurs on it.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Hailey really enjoyed making some dinosaur fossils.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

This was the first time I have ever done a worksheet like this with Hailey.  I think she’s ready to start working on following directions and coloring in the lines, rather than just free coloring all of the time.  She did really well following directions and seemed to enjoy coloring the dinosaur foot prints.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

We practiced shapes, colors and counting by making this shape dinosaur.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Hailey found some foam dinosaurs in my box of dinosaur related materials and wanted to glue them onto some paper.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Lastly Hailey did some practice cutting.

It was a great week!  It was nice to get back into doing Tot School after taking a break to move.  Check out 1+1+1=1 to see what the other tots did last week.
