Week One In Review

14
Sep

Tot SchoolI have joined the Tot School group over at 1+1+1=1 where every week everyone does a post about what they did in Tot School during the week before.  Since I technically post about what we do every day, this is just going to be a review of what I already posted about earlier this week.  If you want more details about any of the activities I am sharing you can just click on the links I will provide to see the details.

So, what did we do last week?

Our letter of the week was A and we did several projects- you can see all of them by clicking here.

We made this letter A by dipping an Apple into red paint and stamping it onto the A.

We made this fun Ant.

We also played a hide the letter A game where I hid felt letter A’s all over our living room for Hailey to find.  And we made a letter A book and played letter A games on the Star Fall website.

Our theme for the week was All About Me- so we traced Hailey’s body and then decorated and labeled it.  You can see my All About Me post here.

Our number was the number one.  Hailey sponge painted the number one.  Once it was dry I put it onto a different colored piece of construction paper, wrote the word “one” on it and we added one sticker.

Our shape was the circle and I gave Hailey a variety of circle shaped items to stamp into the paint and onto her paper.

We made a red discovery bottle for our color using red food coloring, water and glitter.

Hailey also made a collage of all red items on red paper.

If you want to see more details about our number, shape and color the post for that is here.

We are doing the story of creation for our Bible theme this month so last week we did the first two days.  Here Hailey is making day one (God created day and night) by gluing white construction paper onto the top and black construction paper onto the bottom of a piece of card stock.

Here Hailey is working on day 2 (God created sky and water) by gluing blue tissue paper onto the bottom and cotton onto the top of a piece of card stock.

You can see my whole post about creation here.

So, there you have a brief review of our first official week of Tot School.  Stop by 1+1+1=1 to see what the other moms have been up to while trying to keep their tots busy.

The Story of Creation

11
Sep

Our theme for our Bible story this month is the story of creation.  We have read the story and Hailey is working on this memory verse: God created all things.  John 1:3.

We are also creating a picture for each day in the 7 days of creation.  Here are the two days we did this week:

For Day 1- I gave Hailey half of a sheet of white construction paper and half of a sheet of black construction paper.  She glued those onto a piece of card-stock to represent day and night.

The finished picture- God created day and night.  (I also added a little piece of paper later that said Day 1.)

And here is day 2:

Here’s what you’ll need: card-stock, blue tissue paper, cotton balls, glue, paper that says “Day 2,” and paper that says “God created sky and water.”

Glue the tissue paper on to the bottom to represent water and cotton balls on the top to represent clouds.

The finished picture- God created sky and water.

One Red Circle

Sep

This post is not actually about one red circle.  Rather it is about the number, color and shape Hailey was learning about last week.

Our number was the number one (we will do a new number every other week).  Here is one of the projects we did to reinforce the number one.

Here’s what you’ll need: a large number one on construction paper, a blank piece of construction paper in a different color, paint and a sponge.

Sponge paint the number one.  Notice the look of concentration on Hailey’s face- this was serious work!

After the 1 dried, I cut it out and glued it onto the other piece of construction paper.  Then I wrote “one” and we added one sticker.  This is hanging on what will be our number wall in Hailey’s playroom.

Our color for the month of September is red.  We did a couple of projects last week for the color red.

We made a red discovery bottle- it has water and red food coloring in it.  And here you can see Hailey adding some glitter.  Then I used a hot glue gun to glue the top on and added a label that says “Red” on the side of the bottle.

Then we made a red collage:

Here’s what you’ll need: a bunch of red stuff and some glue.

First Hailey colored the red paper using a red marker, crayon and colored pencil and used a red stamper as well.

Then Hailey ripped apart a different piece of red paper.  (Great for those important little hand muscles.)

Glue all of the red items onto the red paper.

The finished red collage.

Lastly, our shape for the month of September is circles.  We made a circle painting.

Here’s what you’ll need: construction paper, paint, various items shaped like circles to use as stampers (I used the tops from milk containers, the top of a lays tube, and an empty toilet paper roll).

Dip the circles into the paint and then stamp onto the paper.

The finished circle picture.

All About Me

09
Sep

Our theme last week was All About Me.  We only did one art activity for this theme and it was really simple.

All you need is some markers and crayons as well as poster board or the inside or a large piece of wrapping paper.  If I had thought of it ahead of time we would have just used the inside of wrapping paper as it would have been cheaper than buying poster board.

Trace your child’s body on to the paper.  Then decorate it.

This is hanging up in Hailey’s playroom and she adds a little bit to it each day.  I’m still working on labeling all of the various body parts.  I also plan to take a picture of her and print out a large face to glue on.  She was sick last week and would not cooperate for a picture.  So, I still need to do that and then I’ll add that on.

We also sang a lot songs like “The Wiggle In My Toe,” “Head and Shoulders,” “The Hokey Pokey” and others that have various body part names in them.

We read a lot of books that related to the All About Me theme and body parts.  This one was Hailey’s favorite and we have read it over and over again.
