Science Sunday

Science Sunday

Our theme last week was transportation and we did a couple of science activities during the week.

One day we did a “What sank the boat” experiment.  Before we did it Hailey guessed how many of each object it would take to sink the boat.

This was our “boat.”

Testing to see how many blocks it would take to sink the boat.

Our final results.

Another day we did this floating/sinking experiment.  First Hailey made predictions about what she thought would happen.  Then we put a ball of playdough into the water to see if it would sink or float.

Then I formed that same ball of playdough into a boat shape and asked Hailey what she thought would happen.  She thought it would still sink.

She was pretty excited with the results.

We also joined the Garden Challenge and posted about the progress of grass planting.

Check out Adventures in Mommydom to see some more Science Sunday.

Hailey’s face is PRICELESS in that last picture!

Oh, and I love how you “snuck in” some math with the first experiment…I love “sneaking” teaching! :0)

I love her face when the boat floats!

Have you read the book “Who Sank the Boat?” It’s a cute story about a bunch of animals that get in a boat and who finally sinks the boat.

I love the play dough sink/float experiment! Plasticine would work great, too!

We tried the dish sink/float container, but we only had plastic blocks on hand and that boat would NOT sink! We had much better luck making boats out of aluminum foil and putting pennies on them!

I love it! I remember my boys having the most fun with “sink and float” experiment. The joyful look on your daughter’s face cannot be matched!
