More Animals in the Winter

Feb

We continued learning about what animals do in the winter with this printable from Isty Bitsy Learners.  Hailey had to cut out 9 different pictures…

…then she had to sort them based on whether the animal hibernates, migrates or adapts.

Then we talked about squirrels do in the winter.

Hailey colored a squirrel.

Then made him a nest to keep him warm all winter.

Hailey’s finished squirrel in the winter.

Animals in the Winter

This week Hailey is learning all about what animals do during the winter.  We read several books about hibernating and have talked about hibernating, migrating and adapting.

Hailey made a book about where all the different animals sleep during the winter.

Here is the completed book- printables for this can be found at Itsy Bitsy Learners.

Then we learned about how the snowshoe hare adapts during the winter.

The snowshoe hare started out brown but then lost that fur and it grew back in white.  So Hailey painted a brown rabbit with white paint.

Then she added some cotton.

The completed snowshoe hare.

Happy Valentine’s Day

One last idea for a Valentine’s Day activity.

Hailey made this Valentine’s Day card.  First I wrote I Love U! on a piece of card stock using white crayon.  You need to push really hard when you’re writing it.  Then Hailey painted the paper using water colors.  Once it was dry we glued it onto construction paper and made it into a card.

If you’re looking for anymore idea you can see all of my Valentine’s Day ideas posts here.

V is for Volcano

We thought it would be fun to talk about Volcanos to go along with our letter of the week.  So we read some books and looked at pictures and then made our own.

We mixed:
3 cups of flour
1 cup of salt
2 tbsp of cooking oil
water

We formed our volcano around an empty yogurt container.

Hailey decided to paint her volcano brown.

Once everything was dry we made our volcano erupt.  We mixed:
2 spoonfuls of baking soda
1 spoonful of dish soap
red and yellow food coloring
and when we were ready to set it off- we added the vinegar

(Rich thought it would be fun to mix all of those things together inside a water bottle and then hold his finger over the top while the pressure built up.  Let’s just say it erupted like what an actual volcano probably does and the kitchen was a mess!)

We also started doing the Raising Rock Stars Preschool letter of the week activities that I found over at 1+1+1=1.

Hailey coloring her verse for the week.  The letter V was kind of a hard letter to start with- the verse was hard for her to remember.

Then she colored and cut her One Way sign.

And read the One Way book.
