Letter X activities:
(Printables for the letter X are from 1+1+1=1 and Confessions of a Homeschooler.)
Hunter coloring his letter X paper.
Stamping the letter X onto this paper. He loves using the stamps!
We made an X is for X-ray
Shapes & Colors:
Our shape this week was the rectangle- Hunter worked hard at stamping some rectangles onto his paper.
Hunter knows all of his colors, but he really enjoys doing these printables, so we keep using these. He doesn’t need any help– he looks at the color word and finds the right marker to color the picture.
Sensory:
One day Hunter played with shaving cream in his sensory bin. It was a huge mess, but he had a great time.
Other:
We practiced counting by putting a number on the paper and then counting out the correct number of pieces.

Poppins Book Nook- The Great Outdoors
Jul
The theme for June for Poppins Book Nook was the great outdoors. There is so much that can be done with this theme that it was hard to know where to start! I had several library books about spring and summer and had planned to go with one of those. But, Hunter didn’t want anything to do with those books. Instead- he was interested in this one:
Charlie the Ranch Dog by Ree Drummond. Hunter loved this book!! (Our dog, Dottie, just so happens to look just like Charlie.)
So, we talked about what it would be like to live on a ranch or a farm and all the planting and work that would be done outside.
Hunter planted some (actually, A LOT of) grass seed in a cup.
Hailey also planted some grass seed.
They each also planted some beans. We watered and made sure they got some sunlight.
1 week later we had some growth.
They continued to grow
Hailey has given the grass several trims.
In talking about the great outdoors, we also did a fun unit all about worms and learned what they do for our earth and how important they are for our gardens. I had no idea! You can see a little more about what we did here and here.

Hunter is 29 months.
I can’t believe we are almost done with the alphabet! We will be going through the alphabet again in the fall when we start preschool… well that is the plan at least. We will see how it goes with a newborn in the house 🙂
Letter U activities:
(Printables for the letter U are from 1+1+1=1 and Confessions of a Homeschooler.)
Hunter used water colors to paint his letter U paper.
Hunter loves these pages- he is getting better about stamping the marker in the circles.
He really enjoyed stamping it hard enough to make the ink splatter (and smear all over his arms).
U is for Umbrella
Shapes:
Our shape this week was the square.
Hunter put square pieces of tissue paper onto a square piece of contact paper, that we made into a sun catcher.
Hunter had some square crackers for a snack.
Sensory:
Hunter played with these foam insect creatures in his sensory bin.
Another day I put these rocks meant for a fish tank in his sensory bin. He was playing with them so nicely that I left the room for a minute to put a load of laundry in the dryer. Soon, I heard Hailey yelling. When I came back to see what was going on, Hunter was pouring these little rocks down the back of her shirt.
Other:
When we came home from Disney World I decided it was time to get down to the potty training business. So, Hunter put on some underwear and did an excited dance around the living room to celebrate. He did really well and only had a couple of accidents. For the most part he went on the toilet and even told me once when he had to go. He was so excited! The next morning when he woke up he said, “Today I want to wear my Minnie and Mickey diapers.” And he has not wanted anything to do with the underwear again.
We have been having fun learning all about worms and at the end of our worm unit, we made dirt pudding with worms (chocolate pudding, crushed Oreos and gummy worms). Hunter loved it!
We learned how important worms are to the earth, so when we finished observing our worms, we let them go in our garden.
Hailey helping Hunter practice his shapes during calendar time.
Hunter loves books!! I love how he goes and finds a book and lays down to read it!

Hunter is 29 months old.
We were back to our regular Tot School activities this week and had a good week.
Letter T activities:
(Printables for the letter T are from 1+1+1=1.)
Hunter started the week out by coloring his letter T paper. I’ve noticed lately that he actually colors the objects on the paper, rather than just coloring all over the page.
Hunter loves using the do-a-dot markers. He used them to stamp the letter Ts on the train.
T is for Train
Shapes:
Our shape this week is the square.
Hunted used blocks to stamp squares onto his paper. He really enjoyed this and asked to do it again later in the day.
Hunter glued squares onto a square to make a face.
We did some puzzles to practice shapes.
Sensory:
I put grass seed into Hunter’s sensory bin this week. He really enjoyed this and played with it for a long time!
I put soapy water into the water table and Hailey and Hunter played in it and used sponges to scrub it clean.
Other:
Hunter used his rainbow pegs to make a vacuum- he pretended to vacuum the floor with this.
I love finding Hunter taking books off the shelf to read.
Hailey read Hunter his Highlights magazine.
Hailey studied worms for science, and of course Hunter wanted to join in the fun.
Hunter and Hailey created little worm habitats so that we could observe our worms. I was surprised that Hunter actually picked the worms up to put them in his jar because he is not usually a fan of things like that.
