Happy 4th of July!
July 2nd, 2009
We made a flag to celebrate the 4th of July.

Here’s what you’ll need- construction paper, star stickers and glue.

Cut out some red stripes and a blue square.

Add some star stickers to the blue square.

Glue the red stripes onto your white construction paper.

Enjoy your flag.

Glitter Fireworks
July 1st, 2009
After our failed attempt at fireworks the other day I decided we would try a different method.

Here’s what you’ll need: paper, glitter and glue.

Put the glue on in the shape of fireworks and then sprinkle with glitter.

Pretty sparkly fireworks.

Failed Attempt at Fireworks
June 30th, 2009
We are taking a little break from our space theme to do some July 4th related activities. So today we tried to make some fireworks. We did a fireworks project last year using paint and it didn’t work because it was too thick. So this year I tried using food coloring- but that didn’t work either.

We used bowls, paper, straw, food coloring and a box.

I put little spots of food coloring on the paper and had Hailey blow into the straw to spread it around. It was supposed to look like fireworks but as you can see it didn’t really work. As a side note- if you try this- I poked 2 little holes near the top of the straw so that she couldn’t suck up the liquid.

Our finished failed attempt at fireworks.
Come back tomorrow to see our fireworks that actually turned out! And if you know how to make this idea work- please advise!!

Fireworks Craft
July 3rd, 2008
I had this fabulous idea to do a fireworks craft with Hailey today. I have done this project with older kids, but never a 20 month old. I figured I’d give it a try and go with whatever ended up happening.
What You’ll Need:
- White paper
- Red and blue paint
- Straws
- Newspaper to protect your table

Directions:
Put a small amount of paint on the paper in a couple of different spots. Then blow through the straws on the paint to create the fireworks look. You can poke a few small holes in the straw to prevent the child from sucking the paint up.
I did have one problem- I only had finger paint which was kind of thick so it was hard even for me to blow on the paint to create the splatter look. The next time we do something like this I will use regular paint and water it down. Or, another option is to use water colored with food coloring.
But, Hailey had a blast and that is all that matters.

Getting started

Blowing through the straws didn’t work, so Hailey painted with the straws instead. It kind of looks like fireworks in this picture.

And soon she was finger painting.

The finished “fireworks” picture. Which doesn’t look anything like fireworks- but Hailey and I both had fun making it.
Have a happy and safe 4th of July!

4th of July Collage
July 2nd, 2008
So you might have started to wonder where I have been. Or maybe not. Either way, here I am posting a cute and easy 4th of July collage.
What you’ll need:
- Red, white and blue paper
- glue
- Cut some various shapes and sizes cut out of the red, white and blue paper.
I pre-cut some stars and some different sizes and shapes of paper using decorative scissors. Then Hailey enjoyed gluing the pieces on to her paper.

The finished collage.
