Dinosaur Bones

21
May

We have started learning all about dinosaurs and I have several fun activities and crafts planned!  First up we did a dinosaur bones craft.

Dinosaur Bones Craft

This is super easy- all you need is glue, craft sticks, toothpicks, a dinosaur shaped head and some construction paper.

Dinosaur Bones Craft

For Hunter I put the glue on his paper and then he lined his sticks up with the glue.  He did a really good job putting his sticks on the glue.

After you put the neck, legs and tail on, add the toothpicks for the smaller bones.

Shape Dinosuar

May

We finished up our dinosaur theme today by making a shape dinosaur.  An activity like this can be incorporated into almost any theme to reinforce shapes, colors, counting, etc.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Here’s what you’ll need: various shapes cut out of construction paper, a piece of construction paper to glue everything onto and glue.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Glue the shapes onto the paper.  Make sure to talk about colors and shapes and count the pieces as your child adds them on.

Here’s Hailey’s finished shape dinosaur.

Dinosaur Fossils

May

We are continuing our dinosaur theme and today we made some dinosaur fossils.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Here’s what you’ll need: some modeling clay and some small dinosaurs.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Explore the modeling clay for a few minutes, it’s fun to play with.  I asked Hailey questions about what it felt like and smelled like, etc.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Then roll the clay into a ball.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Then press it down nice and flat.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Press a dinosaur into the clay hard enough to leave an impression.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Here’s the finished fossils.  It takes a few days for them to completely dry.  Once they dry you can add them to a sand box and then pretend to be archaeologists digging for dinosaur fossils.

Hailey-o-saurus

May

Our theme for this week has been dinosaurs and today we made a “Hailey-o-saurus” dinosaur.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Here’s what you’ll need: Dinosaur shaped construction paper, egg shaped construction paper, blank piece of construction paper, markers, items for decorating (we used feathers and pom-poms) and glue.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Hailey colored her dinosaur.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Then she glued on some pom-poms and feathers.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

Then Hailey colored the dinosaur egg.  While she was coloring I explained to her that dinosaurs hatched from eggs.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

We wrote a story about “Hailey-o-saurus.”  I asked some questions to get Hailey started and then she told me all about her dinosaur while I wrote down what she said.

Our Crafts ~N~ Things

We glued the dinosaur onto the dinosaur egg and displayed it with the story Hailey wrote.
