Expedition Earth Mexico

We had a great time learning about Mexico!

Expedition Earth- Mexico

Hailey used playdough to make an Aztec Temple.

Expedition Earth- Mexico

We made some maracas.

Expedition Earth- Mexico

Hailey and Hunter loved dancing with their maracas.

Expedition Earth- Mexico

The finished maracas- they were very easy to make.  I put popcorn kernels inside some of our left over plastic Easter Eggs.  Then we taped spoons to the eggs and decorated the tape.

Expedition Earth- Mexico

We also made some lovely Mexican bowls.

Expedition Earth- Mexico

After shaping air dry clay, Hailey and Hunter pressed beads and sequence into the bowls.

When the bowls were dry, they painted them with water colors and used them for Mother’s day presents.

Expedition Earth- Canada

Our next country to visit during Expedition Earth was Canada.

Expedition Earth- Canada

Hailey started out doing the mapping activity.

Expedition Earth- Canada

She made a book of animals from Canada.

Expedition Earth- Canada

She added Canada to her lapbook.

Expedition Earth- Canada

We talked about snow shoes and how they are used and watched some videos on Youtube about it.  Then we made our own and tried walking in them.

Expedition Earth- Canada

We read about the ice hotel in Canada.  We looked at pictures online and it looks so amazing!!  I would love to visit, but not actually stay- I don’t know how people stay warm enough to sleep.  So, after we learned all about it, we made some colored ice to build our own castle.

Expedition Earth- Canada

We used water to paint the ice and make it stick together.

Expedition Earth- Canada

Hailey and Hunter both loved this activity.

Expedition Earth- Canada

The completed ice castle.

Tot School

May

Hunter is 28 months old.

Tot School

It was another fun filled, busy week at Tot School.

Letter S activities:

(Printables for the letter S are from 1+1+1=1 and Confessions of a Homeschooler.)

Tot School

We always start out our week with Hunter coloring a paper for his letter of the week.  He has even started asking to do this.

Tot School

He loves doing the do-a-dot printables for the letter too.  He is getting much better at dotting the letter rather than just putting random dots all over the paper.

Tot School

We lined up some pom-poms on the letter S.  Hunter didn’t want me to take anymore pictures on this day 🙂

Tot School

Stamping the letters has become one of his favorite activities.  He asks to do this almost every day.

Tot School

We added the letter S to our Chicka-Chicka-Boom-Boom tree.

Tot School

Hunter painted an S and some stars.

Tot School

S is for Stars.
(I mixed the glitter into the paint rather than sprinkling it on and there was no glitter mess.)

Circles:

Tot School

Hailey and Hunter had fun blowing bubbles- and noticing that they are circles.

Tot School

Hunter put some circle shaped paper onto a contact paper shaped circle.

Tot School

I turned it into a circle sun catcher.

Tot School

He glued different colored circles onto a circle.

Tot School

We made a “circle man.”

Sensory:

Tot School

Hunter requested eggs for his sensory bin this week.

Other:

Tot School

Hunter working on a clay dish for Mother’s Day.  I helped him shape the clay into a little bowl.  Then he added beads and sequence while the clay was still wet.  Once it was dry he painted it using water colors.

Tot School

Hailey and Hunter’s finished bowls.

Stop by 1+1+1=1 to see what the other tots were up to this week.

Week in Review

Week in Review

Here is a little bit of what we’ve been up to lately:

History/ Language Arts:

Week in Review

We have been preparing for our upcoming vacation to Disney World, so we read Who Was Walt Disney?  We really enjoyed reading this book, it was so interesting!  Even Hunter sat and listened to it most of the time.

Week in Review

After we finished reading the book, Hailey did a book report in the shape of a Mickey Mouse head.  On one ear she wrote the name of the book and who the author and illustrator are.  On the other ear she wrote when and where Walt Disney was born and when he died.  On the other papers she wrote 3 adjectives to describe Walt Disney, a question she would like to ask him, her favorite quote from Walt Disney, and a timeline of his life.

Science:

Hailey has been learning all about roller coasters and how they work.  We used an Amanda Bennett unit study all about roller coasters and had a lot of fun with this unit!

Week in Review

Hailey drew some pictures of different kinds of roller coasters.

Week in Review

We did one test where we used 2 different ramps- one long…

Week in Review

…the other short.  We checked to see how far the car would go after it came off each ramp, and which ramp would send the car further.

Week in Review

Hailey used several different websites for fun roller coaster activities.

Week in Review

We did another experiment.  This time we used the same ramp each time.  First we put one book under the ramp, then 2 books under the ramp, then 3 books under the ramp and finally, 4 books under the ramp.  Hailey predicted what she thought would happen, then we tested it to see what would happen and measured the results.

Week in Review

We finished up the unit by making this roller coaster lapbook that covers everything Hailey learned about.

Week in Review

Hailey and Hunter made some little clay bowls for Mother’s Day.  First they shaped the bowls, and while the clay was still wet, they added beads and sequence.  Once it dried, they used water colors to paint.

Week in Review

The completed bowls, they turned out cute.
