100 days

We celebrated our 100th day of school a couple of weeks ago. Here are some of the activities we did to celebrate the day:

100days

The first thing Hailey did when she came into our classroom was notice that there were pennies all over the place.  I had hid 100 pennies around the room.  She had to predict how tall she thought 100 pennies would be.  Then she piled them up and measured them to check her prediction.

100days2

We made 100 day hats.

100days3

We used 100 Fruit Loops to make necklaces.

100days4

We did a 100 piece puzzle.

100days5

We made a little trail mix snack by mixing 10 pieces of 10 different snacks together.

100days6

We used Do-a-Dot markers to stamp 100 gumballs.

100days8

The finished gumball machines.

100days7

Hunter and Hailey working on making pictures using 100 toothpicks.

It was a super fun day!!

Poppins Book Book

As you probably know, each month I co-host a super fun book club called Poppins Book Nook.  Each month there is a different theme.  All of the co-hosts pick a book to go along with the theme and then come up with some activities related to the book.  On the last Monday of every month we all post about the different activity or activities we did throughout the month.

These are the themes that we will cover during the 2014-2015 year.  So, if you come back on the last Monday of the month you will see how I decided to use the idea “Where in the World.”  There will also be a link up if you want to share any fun books or activities you used.  Plus, here are all of the co-hosts who will be sharing activities each month:

Expedition Earth

We are planning a trip to Disney World in a couple of months, which we are very excited about!  Before we go I thought it would be fun to do a little study of each of the 11 countries we will see while visiting Epcot.  So, we started using Expedition Earth since it covers 10 of the 11 countries.

The first week we just did a brief study of the continents.

Expedition Earth

We started out playing a little “Continent Hop,” which both kids loved!

Expedition Earth

After we read “Me on the Map” by Joan Sweeney, Hailey worked on her own book that goes along with it.  It really helps to understand where we are in relation to the world.  It’s currently free on Curriclick.

Expedition Earth

Hailey’s favorite activity was making the continents using salt dough.

Expedition Earth

We put wax paper down on the table, then put printables of the continents underneath the wax paper so that Hailey could easily get the shape of the continents correct.

Expedition Earth

Then we painted the continents green.

Expedition Earth

Our completed continents.

We had so much fun our first week using Expedition Earth!!
